Hi there guys!

I'm about to purchase a 2000 Rover Mini Cooper, and want to give the engine the best oil it can get.

I have heard conflicting stories about the use of mineral oil vs synthetic, but my Dad has used synthetic in his car and has never looked back. Thoughts?

I have read that 20w-50 oil is the best to use in these engines, so I'm looking into buying a large container of 20w-50 fully synthetic for the car.

Just looking for some advice.

Thanks!

Benjamin.

thats what am looking at putting in next time. at the moment have the halfords classic 20 50

castrol do a 20 50 and millers and Comma

remember theres a gearbox under your engine using the same oil

If you look thought the mpi/spi technical section you'll find that this has been discussed many times.

Yes an mpi has fuel injection but it is still an A series at the end of the day.
I personally use this in my mpi
http://www.swiftune....ic-mini-5l.aspx

The CTV is an additive designed for use in cars like the mini which share the engine and gearbox oil.....

Very pricey but oil is cheaper then metal!

If you search through google you might find it cheaper

Millers or comma 20/50 mineral is the stuff to use. If not use the 20/50 Halfords stuff in the green tin.

Mineral Oil 20W/50.... Either Comma, Millers, Castrol or Halfords will be fine not matter whether it's an a or a+, carbed or injected. Use one of these and you shouldn't go wrong!

Jheez this topics been around so many times... :P

Always a top quality 20w50 mineral except for arctic conditions when a 10w40 mineral is OK.
The A-series was designed for a thick oil.
I did once try a synthetic and blew my cam bearings at high revs.
Best I've used and available in the UK is Valvoline Racing 20w50. Castrol Classic 20w50 and he equivalent products from Penrite, Millers and halfords all seem good for road Minis.
Gawd, how many times do we have to have this thread topic?

It doesn't matter if you use synthetic or mineral, as long as you use the correct viscosity 20W50, although the choice tends to be limited for Synthetics in that grade

I use Millers Motorsport CTV 20W50 semi sythetic. That's what they use at Swiftune so good enough for me! It also happens to be what Nick gave me when I did some work experience there last summer
