While SirD hasn't even hit 200 miles as far as breaking in is concerned, I've become increasingly aware of a lack of engine power in the above rpm range. While the idler gear is rattling and this will be replaced in the Spring, I'm sure is related to electrimagicals/sensors. To keep things clean:

- Idle is very throaty, needle sitting at 900rpm but sounds like there's a lumpy cam especially when cold, persists when the engine is warm. Feel like I have to keep constant attention on the revs in case they drop. With the clutch pedal depressed, while the idler gear does shut up, the revs continue to sound like there's a race cam in there (the cam wasn't replaced, original as far as I'm aware).

- Especially notable in 2nd and 4th gear (driving through town, cruising on the main road at 40-45MPH respectfully).

- In the RPM range it feels like the battery (brand new, pulling 14v from alternator) is running flat or possibly a lack of fuel.

- Above the range is perfect and more than happy to accelerate on with no hesitation.

Suggestions welcome and thanks in advance, more than happy to post a video that would help :)

*tumbleweed*

If you think it's related to sensors, are you able to have it plugged in and checked? That clever Mr Yardy did mine. It flagged a couple of issues with sensors, one of which was sorted with cleaning the sensor, and the other needs replacing and should be arriving today.

There's quite a few threads on here regarding badly running mpis, I just followed a few of them to check things before I could get it plugged in, even if the symptoms weren't immediately related to my problem. I wouldn't fancy replacing sensors blind, could get expensive!

When replacing items were any adjustments attempted to the throttle body or has anyone ever tried to adjust the idle by adjusting the throttle body? This can cause problems as it requires a service reset.

Waiting for the weather to not be freezing cold/wet and pass the daily salt dumps on the road. Video just for some clarity:

Removed and cleaned the IACV - sorry Liam I only read your message after I got back in from the garage >_< which part of the valve did you break - the black spring loaded sleeve?

The torx screws wern't exactly tight upon removing, but the breather pipe was fitted tightly. The valve was completely caked in carbon:

A clean up with brake cleaner and a 15 minute wrestle with the wiring loom later..

Much nicer, though in true Mini sense, Sir D is now aware that things are being fixed - so the fan belt is the next thing. :withstupid:

Why stop at the iacv? what about the map and air flow, and not forgetting the actual tb, they'll be crudded as well.

Because the majority of that was cleaned and checked over prior to the restoration. What I need now is a sensor check.

Hi, was the crank sensor purchased for this car? Also, why did you buy the stalks? Got another Mini?

by the way - posted that small bracket yesterday

Cheers

Hey chap,

Yeah it's all for spares back-stock, that way it's a quick change out when required.

Okay then.

- ECU was cleared 2 weeks ago and did 300 miles following
- New clutch 300 miles ago and no oil leaks since
- All breather hoses are clear
- New coolant and oil in the last 0 miles
- IACV was cleaned the last time round along with the MAP and all the spark plugs

This was the idle today:

The only thing left that's not been checks due to it's location is the idler gear. Could anyone verify for me that this is pretty much the route cause for this intermittent idle?
