Hello guys
Im very new to the world of mechanical engineering and really dont know much about the set up and whats required. The problem i have is the mini i purchased never came with a engine so i want to know what peoples ideas would be if they had no engine at all and wanted to build a 1275 with a supercharger set up.
many thanks
Kieran

same here! only im sticking with 998. my plan is to go for an Eaton M45 [due to availability] or a small Rotrex [due to compact size - expensive and rare tho].
i prefer a blow through setup; using an intercooler gives you taht extra bit of power and driveability, plus it lengthens the life of a supercharger
just in case you dont know, blow through means having the supercharger BEFORE the carb or injection/throttle body, suck through means the supercharger comes AFTER - having it before is better because youre not then sucking fuel through the 'charger - some of them have delicate coating to seal and keep their life and the fuel will damage this
im aiming for 998, filter-->front mounted supercharger-->intercooler-->HIF44 turbo carb [needs to be turbo spec to handle the pressure - can get them easily off metros, also for sale on minisapres i think] --> engine. hopefully gonna get about 100HP
suck through would be filter-->carb [can use standard carb because its not under pressure]-->supercharger--.engine
if youre gonna put forced induction on an engine you want to make sure its in good shape beforehand - several lads i meet that just bolt a turbo or 'charger on then wonder why their car blows up 2000 miles later!
im gonna be fitting a larger flow, ported head, rebuild the engine with dished pistons to lower the compression ratio [8.5:1 or lower] and hopefully im gonna get a straight cut gearbox and drop gears too - dont want to waste that extra power, and the 'charger will be noisy enough anyway!
hope this helps - there's a wealth of info out there on this subject. try turbominis.com for a suckthrough setup or vmaxscart.com [might be .co.uk] for ready-to-fit kits for the mini
