Just bought a bonnet stay, but how does it stay attached to the bonnet?]
it clips in at one end and it fits through a hole at the front end of the bonnet, but what keeps it from falling out if you get what i mean?

The bonnet stay doesn't even fit when the bonnet is closed! :@

when trying to close the bonnet with the stay in rest position, it hits the ecu. it's like its bent in the wrong way

Sounds like you've got the wrong bonnet stay for your car.
If you refer to the earlier Somerford Mini link, you'll see there are two types. 1 is pre '97 and the other post '97. The post '97 looks like it is shaped to the curve of the bonnet - possibly to miss the ECU.

My bonnet rod appears to be the correct shape for my model, its so confusing. Can anyone post a piccy of a spi mini bonnet rod? thankyou!
