A quickshift makes movement of the gearstick less making changing gears quickeer. :w00t:

There are three basic points to the lever.

The bit you hold on to. The pivot, and the bit that moves the selector.

A quickshift repositions the latter two, so that the bit you move with your hand now moves less for the same action by the bit that selects the gear.

A quickshift will not make gear changes quicker, it makes gearlever movement more solid and direct with a shorter shift movement, it does this by having a different pivot point giving shorter changes, trying to change gears quicker with one will just destroy your gearbox.

If you want to save yourself some hassle go for the genuine KAD quickshift, the copies require some modification to fix and a lower standard of quality. The KAD item is about £80 and copies usually sell for around £40.

by making it shorter from gear to gear meaning less gear stick travel time wouldent this make it faster?? but very unnoticeable!!

it would make the selector fork move quicker, but it wont make the gears change any quicker

if im right in my thinking at this time of night (probably not but somewhere close) it doesnt engage the actual gears any faster, but meens their is less down time that the enginge is not driving through the gear box to the wheels, due to the reduced time that the selectors are moving between the gears ie shortened stroke of the gear lever from driver input, so the split seconds saved helps for shorter lap or 1/4 times

hope this sheds some light on the subject

They should be called Shortshifts not quickshifts...

Unless you are VERY good with the clutch and timing, they make no difference realy to the time to change gear, and on a poor gearbox they will actually make it worse..

But they do provide a more positive feel to the gear change... and out of the ones I've tried so far, go for the KAD.

Regarding the make of the Quickshift. Im not sure what make mine is, But I know its got a Lovely annodised Blue base. :w00t:

Ive driven minis with and without the Quickshifts, and I find that the ones With quick shifts (I.e. My mini) are better to drive as you can have your seats Further back and still be able to reach to put the car into first and third gear! :D

If you haven't got the KAD logo on your gear knob then it isn't KAD.

Of course the downside is that you are working the synchros harder and more chance of actually beating them and crunching the gears occasionally!

This is fine for a race car that gets a rebuild every few races but not if you want your gearbox to last several thousand miles !

If you move your arm at the same speed between the two, then the shorter throw will in theory engage the gears faster. In reality, it's such a small decrease in time, that you won't notice. What you will notice is the more positive and crisper change.
