Hi, been offered a k reg metro gta for 100 quid and was just wondering is it worth it? Body work abit shabby but runs like a dream only 45k on clock, have been looking into about fitting the engine into my 998 Mayfair but some say this is a big job? How big? Or does anyone know somewhere that will take the job on and how much would I be looking at? I am a mechanic by trade but would rather pay for it to be done? If it is too big then is the car worth buying to break? Like how much are the engines etc going for and wheres the bet place to advertise/sell them
Many thanks

Must be worth it if you want to swap the engine and then break the rest of the car?

You'd be better of buying it, smartening it up and selling it on again. Late A-series metros have been going for good money lately, it'd be a shame to brake it.

The body work it quite bad to be honest, I would like to smarten it up but too much work, would like the engine in my mini but don't know what it's like to do, would like to pay someone who does it for a living or has done one before

The lad wants to scrap it but with an egine like that then it would be said to see it go

is it an a series or a k series engine ?
a series should just bolt straight in with hardly any modifications as its basically the same engine as a mini
the k series how ever is more difficult and you have to change the subframe for a custom one
i think you can get all or most of the parts for the k series conversion from a company called watsons or
something like that ?

K reg will be a Mk3 Rover Metro. 1992. It'll be a K-series, SPI 1.4l Twin Cam.
K-series can fit into a Mini fine, under a standard roundnose if you're clever. You need a custom subframe, or a Watsons/allspeed frame. You may need to modify the baulkhead to clear the inlet depending on what else you do to the car.
Then you have the wheel option. K-series Metro's run 95.25 PCD, Minis dont. Mini wheels will remain the same at the back but depending on what you do at the front, you may have to get stuff redrilled so that you're running the same PCD at the front as the back, no big deal.
1400 K-series twin cam is an awesome engine. If you get it fit a Land Rover head gasket (MLS) and get it tuned and you should be looking at the 105bhp it came out of the factory with. Nice set of 135 cams and a retune and you can see a 15bhp return, 120bhp... 14 second quarter of a mile times are acheiveable.
Gearbox wise, you can run the usual R65 which is a lovely box, or PG1. Type B from the Rover BRM is a popular choice because it has a limited slip diff :)
If you dont buy it inbox me this chaps phone number because I'll have it at the price. If he's going to scrap it tell him I'll double scrap value and collect it on the weekend.
