I'm just in the process of repairing my mini doors, both need new skins (the old ones are off) but the right one needs some work on the lower part of the door frame.

I found the below in an old thread and was just wondering if anyone has used this method of using the "door step repair panel" to repair the lower door frame?

For anyone needing to repair the lower part of the door frame, I found the plain doorstep repair panel not the shaped one once trimmed to be a perfect fit for repairing the complete lower edge. Now this was a long time ago but the proper lower repair panel for the door frame was about a £12 and a plain doorstep was a £1 at the time so it was a very effective cheap repair if the rot was not terrible

Thanks

Bergy

mmmm not sure about the door step repair section but if your door bottom is really bad you will need the right panel to do the job.

fastroadie, are you referring to the door step panel or the actual lower door frame panel?

Way back when (only a few years) if you needed to repair the lower section of a doorframe you had 3 options. Modify a cheap doorstep panel, make something your self or find another door in better condition, but doors were easier and cheaper to find.

Now though. you can buy ready-made lower doorframe repair panels, witch just make the whole repair a lot simpler, easier and neater.

Thanks 1984mini25, that seems to make a lot of sense.

I always get some great replies to my queries on this website, it really is appreciated.

Hi

I have fitted one of the repair panels for the lower door frame. Just to let you all know it was an easy job to do and the results are pretty good. I'll be doing the other door next weekend.

Thanks for the advice!

Thought I would ad some pics, just done one door inc frame repair, now on to second door. I had ran out of steel by 2nd door after the rest of the car repairs but still had the sill cut off section from the oversill I shortened when I realised thanks to mini forum that the wider oversills arnt the best.
I found the clarke panel beating set really useful to get the rounded corner right and also this Youtube clip helped with dent removals and getting better shape with the new skin.
Hope this is of help!
By the way, the door with a skin on is the one I finished from the other side of the car a while ago, still on with the ns door. the work above took 1 1/2 hrs this eve!
