
Plenum Chamber

Hey i ve jus brought a plenum chamber which is idea for my turbo project. I can tell it is from an austin from the logo in the casting but i was wondering is anyone has any information about it original source as i am curious. The part number is CAM9707 and here are a couple photos of it.

It is off either an Austin Mentego or a Maestro 
EDIT: Both types were produced with a turbo model in the range, and correct me if I'm wrong someone but i believe both engines used either the HIF44 or HIF6 carb...

It's from a NA Montego or Maestro I believe. IIRC the Turbo versions used the same plenum as the Metro. If I'm right it won't have the restrictor ring fitted & won't be any use unless you fit one.

This isnt from a turbo engine originally then?? and it fits to a HIF 44 carb perfectly and i am hopin to use it on my turbo build as the inlet for it is on the opposite which is ideal for routin pipes from an intercooler up front

It would appear it was only fitted to the 1.6 / 2.0 N/A Maestro and Montego's, sorry to miss lead you. As phil said the plenum of the metro was used on turbo versions...

ye with this plenum it would be fine to use on a turbo as i am goin be to modifyiing it accordingly with a dump valve and weldin up the large openin where there was some sort of sensor and a pipe for pressure gauge and to actuator

You can't use this plenum for a turbo use. It has no restictor ring and no way to pressurise the float bowl. The only way to use it would be to feed a pressure signal to the float bowl through the fuel overflow pipe. The problem is finding a suitable point to take that feed from.
I'd advise that you don't use it if you want an easy life.

what part do u mean by restrictor ring?? and i am modifyin this plenum to with all the pipe connections it needs

the plenum you have has no restrictor ring or feed to pressurise the float bowl. The restrictor ring ensures that there is a pressure differance between the jet in the carb throat and the float bowl. If there isn't, then as soon as you get any boost your engine will stop.
It may be possible to fit such a ring and drill a feed to the float bowl, but it'll be much easier to use a metro turbo plenum. The size and shape of the ring are critical to it working; how that will work in your plenum is anyones guess.
It won't work as it is, no matter how many pipes you put on it. You misunderstand the purpose of the plenum in this case. It is only there to make the fuelling work.

Best to stick to a normal metro turbo plenum chamber.
I actually have one of those and plan on using it, but it needs a fair bit of modification to fit. As in im going to have to cut it open to fit a restrictor feed, then drill and tap a place from before the restrictor ring, and one again to pressurise the float bowl, and block up some other holes. Just use the metro one....
About the only use for those are if you want to fit a modern cone filter on an n/a engine instead of one that bolts to the back of the carb.
