Which minis are 5 speed gearbox rather than 4 or when did this start?
Just wondering as im looking at getting a R reg 1.3i and if this was 5 speed.
Thanks Alec

There was a Sport 5, but I don't think this was factory as such ... but I'm not clever enough to comment on them ... nor rich enough to afford one! :D

I've got a 5 speed box to put in mine, instead! :gimme: :w00t:

They are around, as aftermarket versions - but the majority will always be 4 speed!

So, in that case would ot be at all better for long distance i.e motorway driving?
Instead of a carb or earlier model.

If it is R reg, then it is MPi so will have a 2.76:1 diff and be much better for motorway work

I believe 5 speed was an optional extra for the last few years, was extremely expensive and I've never come across one.

I love having an MPi for longer journeys. Much more refined than my previous carb'd Minis!
