If you have a piece of brass or ally you can use it as a drift and gently tap against the end of the key and drive it up and out. Don't use a steel drift as it could mark the crankshaft.

Have you removed the sprocket?
Its a keyway it stops the sprocket from turning, it doesnt stop the sprocket from comming off.
Remove the sprocket before the keyway, its a semi circle shape.
If the sprocket is off, use a copper drift and tap it out, start on the corner it should move, also try some penitrating fluid
Hope this helps

It's impossible to remove the key with the timing gear sprocket still on the crankshaft.

This is the paragraph as per haynes:
14 To remove the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets complete with chain, ease each sprocket forward a little at a time, levering behind each one in turn with two large screwdrivers at 180º to each other. If the sprockets are locked solid, it will be necessary to use a suitable puller. With both sprockets removed, extract the Woodruff keys from the crankshaft and camshaft with a pair of pliers and store them safely
