restting a mpi ECU

iv been told by resetting my ecu it should help my car run better because of changing my exhaust and putting a k+n on. is this true if so how do i reset it?

With the ignition switched off, disconnect the plug at the bottom of the ECU. Wait for a few seconds. connect it back up start your engine and let it idle for about 10 minutes. this allows the ECU to re-learn the engine.

It would have done it with out dissconnecting the ECU but it would have been over a long period of time, during which your engine probably might not of run as smoothly as it could.

There's a special way to do it... something to do with pressing the throttle pedal down too... It's around here somewhere so I'll go look and then edit my post!!


Here goes....

turn ignition onto 2nd click (press immobiliser etc)
Pump accelerator pedal to floor slowly 10 times
turn ignition off
turn back to 2nd click and then off
enable alarm/immobiliser
disable alarm/immobiliser
turn back on and start



Did this when replaced engine... so it works!! :o
