Did you watch Wheeler dealer when they had the Jaguar XJS? the veneer on the centre console had cracked, so Edd bought some thin stuff that looked similar and stuck it on using a vaccum......

hmm i tried today sanding the finish off and clear coat rattle canning it, i looks alright i dont know how it would look with more coats though. Whats the easiest way of possibly removing the old rubbish finish, is there a paint stripper?

I wouldn't use paint stripper, it will soak into the wood and you will never get it out. The result could be staining which you don't want and any residue could affect the new laquer. The following link explains the best method.

I sanded some door cappings down which I then carbon wrapped.
Sanding the laquer to get a stable base is straightforward. The thing you need to be careful of of that the veneer is very thin and once you are through the laquer, it can be a matter of seconds before you are through the veneer itself and down to the base wood, especially if using power sanders.
If the wood itself is cracked, then the suggestions above regarding stripping & replacing the veneer will be needed.

Or if you are into the carbon look. Might be an option for you.

Good luck
