The block is now at the machinists for the 74mm rebore, cam bearings, reface, with them also fitting the pistons to the rods. This should be back with me mid next week for the dry build to determine the piston to deck clearance, if required. The Total Seal conventional gap piston rings are on order from Performance Unlimited and should be here a week next monday. CR will be set for 10.1:1 as per Cooper SPI using the Cooper ECU

This is not going to be an all out power horse, more of test and development. The head is going to be pretty much standard to start, using a MG Metro cam with 1.5:1 ratio rockers to give it a little beter VE. It'll be interesting to see the figures. I recon there will be bags of low down torque, but running out further up the revs, compared to a standard 1275, due to the restrictive head. This is only to judge how much gain is achieved by purely boring out and using a mild cam, and also to limit power. Going this way I can stage the power increases so I can measure the reaction of the injection system to each modification and hopefully not going beyond the capabilities of the ECU. On that front, I have a bigger injector which I have had running and testing in the standard 1275 engine with quite good results. I am boring out the throttle body to 44mm for a little more air to match the bigger injector. This aspect is purely experimental and reliant on the restrictions imposed by the standard ECU

So all in all I'm very pleased to be getting on with at least one of my engine projects. Hopefully have this installed and run in before Drag Wars, maybe with a ported head, if the pocket can stretch before the event. Budget is the main factor in this build hence the lack of ported head at the minute.

Pictures to follow on return of the hardware :o
