I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find anything about it.

The problem is, everytime when I open the door (both the drivers and passengers doors) it seems to drop a bit. Because of this it is quite hard to close the door properly. When closing from the outside it can be done quite well if I lift the door a bit, but when inside the car I just have to pull the door very hard so that it will close, even though it doesn't sound too healty! The frame behind the window of the door seems to hit the B-post a bit so it's definitely not aligned very well.

Could I fix this by removing the doors and aligning them by adding some shims (or removing if there are any) or could this only be done by replacing the hinge panel or the hinges?

Thanks in advance. by the way my Mini is a 1981 model, so a MK4 shell.€

Either the hinges have worn - or the shell or door has rotted/distorted where the hinges attach. You need to look see and investigate.

Or the latches are aligned wrong, most are. Do the doors actually drop or does the catch lift them too high? If there is no rot or flex in the door or frame check the latch alignment.

I have a similar problem, It turns out that the aerial I but on the a pillar up the windscreen, let water in. That soaked into a sponge lump stuffed in behind the hinges and rotted through! It was hardly noticible at first so I thought it was an adjustment thing and left it until I had time...

It's now a big ol welding job. Which adds to all the others I've got to do:(

It's probably going to be adjustment though, because in my case I was daft enough to drill holes. Check it out sooner rather than later!

Hmm OK thanks for the reply guys,

@Dan, no the door really drops when opened. I tried to align the latches and that does help, but still not 100%... After a while the same problem returns so I have to align the latches every 5 months or so. The problem already existed when I bought the car 2 years ago.

I'll remove the doors some time then and have a look what's really wrong. My Mini is going to get a new front end this summer anyway so maybe it would be smart to replace the hinge panels and A-panels at the same time... oh well, we'll see
