There's a good looking black mini with a kit on it and it's been sitting for a while in the same spot. Just the other day I noticed a boot on its front right. Anyone know what I can do to try and 'claim' this abandoned car?

the owner has probably clamped it so no body takes it? if not then you have to write to the council or summit ?

Speak to your friendly local copper, then maybe it will be picked up by the council and with luck the owner won't claim it and you'll be in with a chance.

I would find out the number plate go to the police and see if they could find out who it belongs to?

My guess is that if it is on a military base then it must have had permission to be there and will be logged as such. Check with the guard room and they might tell you who it belongs to.

If they have no idea who owns it or where it came from, that would worry me slightly given where you say it's sat.

Yeah I have found one on a British army base in Germany that appears to have been left for a while. The people who deal with cars in Germany don't have it on their records, which means the current plate it's the UK one not the UK style one we get issued. They can't tell me the details even if they had them either, so I need to try the military police. There's no car pass on it either with a name or anything to make it easier for me!

You could try applying for the log book from the DVLA, they'll send a letter to the registered owner telling them about it and you can take it form there.

if it on a 'US airforce base' you'll be lucky to be able to get it. i know what they were like in Cyprus. but i guess no harm in asking, that would be my first move.

Thanks for the opinions. I'll go in Monday and ask the police if they have any details on it. Or try dealing with DVLA. Hopefully, in the long run, I'll end up with yet another mini =)
