Top legs now done.



Just need to get the engine in there to work out the rear cutout for the gearbox and the mount positions, and the bottom arm and tie rod mounts.

Progress has been a little slow of late due to the awful weather and me having a bad cold for a couple of weeks - anyway got some stuff done this week again.
First, finished off the bottom arm and tie-rod mounts on the frame. This is a tricky part of the frame build - the tie rod mounts have to be moved outside the front panel mounts to avoid fouling on the engine or frame, so positioning is something of a compromise. I hit on the idea of cutting the originals off and turning them upside down and swapping sides. The bottom arm mounts are refabricated as part of the original front mount has to be cut away to clear the driveshafts - a 1/2" bolt replaces the original pin.











Then I turned my attention to the bonnet. Since the search for a better one had not been fruitful, I set about repairing the little bit of rust (the tinworm had got under the locating pads underneath, so they had to be cut away). One side was OK, but the other side had a couple of pinholes, so I cut away the bad bit and welded in new metal.





A bit of filler, then some primer and finally paint.



That's both sides painted blue, though they need another coat yet, and also did the back doors and put a coat on the front wings while there was paint in the pot.








Without an oven though, even 2-pack takes 48 hours to harden in this weather, and I've run out of gas for my heater, so that's it on the paint front for this week.

She's back. She's waiting to get the garage space fully back, then it begins again! 

Will be updating this thread once we're at a good point, but I've also set up an IG for anyone wanting to connect & keep up on socials 

 

Bodywork still in the same complete position, next steps will be engine, wiring and all the fun stuff!

 

Found a fantastic lady in Scunthorpe called Retro Refits who has been working wonders in my interior, I'll be picking that up in June so will post some pics then, but we're heading in the right direction! Unfortunately won't be ready until the 2027 season, it's been a long ole slog!

just in terms of peace of mind are you going to get someone to finish up the subframe welding, or inspect it or anything once you've got everything where it needs to be

 

anywhere else on the car I'd just keep quiet and let you get on with it but that's holding your suspension components and engine in place isn't it.  might just need grinding back and going over in a few places

 

paintwork looks lovely though, great progress
