Hey,

I'm not sure what else to try with regard to this, so I thought it warranted a thread.

I'm having a running issue with my early MPi. When the throttle closes, the revs drop too low, then catch themselves just before stalling. It does this while driving along in slow traffic, changing down for a junction, or blipping the throttle when stationary.

In this video the engine is running, fully warm after a drive, with the headlights on, parked in my garage. I'm only touching the throttle ever so slightly. The affect is the same when driving along.

The throttle body and lambda have recently been replaced as they were previously faulty. All other sensors seem to be okay when checked on the diagnostics kit. A leak down test showed the engine is breathing a little heavy, so the breathing system is routed to a catch tank, ensuring the engine is breathing some fresh air. I have removed, cleaned, and replaced the iacv, map, and inlet air temp sensors. The car is fine when accelerating at higher revs and seems to otherwise run okay now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

James.

Have to checked for any vacuum leaks and also tried cleaning the injectors?

Post tb leaks? I'm pretty sure the sensors are all sealed in, even the inlet temp(!). I'll check the iacv pipes, and I'll dig out some carb cleaner to check the manifold. All of these were disturbed when the engine came out a week or so ago, but it was doing this before.

I shall also read up on removing the injectors.

oh gosh the rattle :ohno:

There is no rattle in that video :P The clutch was held down for that take.

It's pretty smooth if you ignore the drop gear chatter. The rattling there is just the engine almost stalling and generally running a bit crappy when the revs drop.

Anyway, it's fixed!

Dave Yardy's knowledge sorts it once more :P Anyway, the idle revs were upped using the tb stopper, meaning the stepper motor could relax, naturally lowering the revs back to normal, but allowing the engine to cope when electric items were demanding power at idle. It now doesn't feel like it's going to stall at every junction!
