Hi everybody.
I need an advice from you fellow Mini drivers. I'm a twenty years old male mechanic apprentice, foreign nationality (Hungarian), been living in this country for four years now. I've got a full UK driver's license for two and a half years. I own a 1993 Rover Mini Mayfair, with a few little modifications, such as: alloy rims, a pair of doggy old recliner seats and a Maniflow system. I tried to get insurance quotes from various places (Sky Insurance, Elephant, Adrian Flux, Gocompare etc.) but they give me ridiculous quotes at the region of £2200 and I didn't even state any modifications yet. This is why I turn to you lot now. Can you give any ideas on where should I try next? I'm getting really frustrated as I can hardly afford to pay this amount of money out every year...
Cheers for any ideas!

I couldnt afford those insurance companies either. I'm 20 also with 3 years driving, 3 years no claims and a 92 mayfair with no mods except alloys. I eventually went with RAC for £700.00 inc breakdown.
BUT! most modern insurances do not have agreed valuation which classic/mini specialist companies do. So say if you have an accident and your car is written off you would only get say £500 when the car is worth more like £1,500 to Adrian Flux etc.
I didnt realise this until after i purchased my insurance with RAC but £700 to me was very cheap. Do you use the mini as an everyday driver? I put as little mileage as possible 2000 miles i think which i will never do in mine as it only comes out when its not raining and weekends.
Hope that helps

Yes, she is a daily driver. I can't stand modern cars.. :) I think one of the problems is that I haven't got any No Claim bonuses. Up till now I was a named driver and my dad was the main driver, but they ask about £1500-1700 for it like that and I'd like to have it on my name to obtain No Claim bonus so the insurance can hopefully go down like that.

Try all the comparison sites, just because one doesnt give any good prices doesnt mean the others won't. I normally get good results with gocompare

if you live with your partents and they have a car try joining the 2 policies together with admiral multi car, works out cheaper for all 4 of us in my household by using them! and put your dad as a named driver on your car!
