Non Start Sneezing With Flame Through Injector

I had a problem with Gilbert (1991 SPI) the other week, ive come back today and replaced the Crank Sensor.
Only thing is that now i have a spark, but he turns and wants to fire then seems to do either of the following.
1. Jam
2. Sneeze
And then twice hes sent a flame back up through the injector manifold.
Ive taken all teh plugs out and allowed any excess favpour to get out and also opened up the disk in the injector and left for a while to see if that will clear the fumes.
Any Ideas?

Firing order is 1342, anticlockwise. Cylinder number 1 being at the radiator end.
Not always, depends if some one has messed with it, and being a 91, gauranteed some one has.
The sure way is to turn the engine by hand until cylinder 1 is at Top Dead Center, with both the inlet and exhaust valves closed also on cylinder 1. Then remove the dizy cap and see which lead and plug the rotor arm points to. This will be the lead and plug for cylinder 1. From there you can work out which is which, 1,3,4,2 starting at 1 going in an anti clockwise direction.
The procedure set out in the haynes manual to set up the distributor drive and the initial positioning of the distributor is fairly accurate.

yer think so below is how they are on the plugs and dizzy with 1 being the closest plu to the rad. eg. from ECU to rad is 4,3,2,1
Plug 1 to Bottom Left of Dizzy
Plug 2 to Top Left of Dizzy
Plug 3 to Top Right of Dizzy
Plug 4 to Bottom Right
That is wrong. The firing order as you have described in relation to how it is wired is 1,4,3,2.
It should be 1,3,4,2

So how can you mess with an engine to change its firing order? Or where no.1 cylinder is located? Slightly baffled here....

im up in sheffield atm at uni but ill try him on sunday and set the dizzy up again.
Probs me being stupid and putting the wrong leads in the wrong order
- I did wonder when i put the spark testers on why they all fired in a line

what does happen though is that people mess around with the position of the dizzy / dizzy drive this results in #1 on the dizzy being in the 'wrong' place (should be top right of the dizzy cap being #1)
so assuming all is standard and not been messed around:
Top Right of dizzy = #1 (radiator end spark plug)
then in an anti-clockwise rotation:
Top left of dizzy = #3
bottom left = #4
bottom right = #2
firing order 1-3-4-2
