I posted this on the Auto Mini Register, but was hoping to get a little more traffic/answers as I would like to get going on this. I have a 82 998 Auto, and decided last minute to keep it Auto and grabbed a Metro 1275 Automatic, it appears to be A+, pot joints, etc, the head isn't tapped which leads me to believe its the Metro variety on top of its got strange things attached that I don't know what it does. I know I need a distributor, starter, carb. Figured I would replace the headgasket, waterpump, alternator, hoses, etc. My question is what are the circled things, and what do I need to fit this into the Mini, the shifter is there, but is missing almost everything, so I was hoping to find a shifter someone can sell me. Lastly before anyone bust my balls, I have 3 other cars with engine swaps, so no need for Manual as I got a V6 in one of them, and a Suzuki Engine in the other.

Here is how she arrived.

In all of her glory

What is this circled part, is this the inhibitor? How do I make this work?

Posted Image
What is this, looks like it connects to the fuel line. I assume I can just get rid of this.

Posted Image
Here is the throttle jacker, not sure how this is suppose to work. I want to run a hif44, my T.J on my 998 and others I have seen are u shaped, not l shaped to bolt to the throttle linkage.

Posted Image
Here is the shifter, I would probably just want to get a great used one, does any shift knob fit on here, ie a manual knob, or is it auto specific?

Posted Image
Lastly is this the reverse switch?

Thanks guys I am hoping this will be a worth while, easy upgrade to my car to get it back on the road, would like to pop this engine in within the next few weeks.

Already ordered a electronic 59d dizzy and matching coil for it as well as starter, hif44/hs6 carb, headgasket kit, 1275 rad bracket, some bits from DSN Classics, Maniflow headers, and 70amp alternator. Hopefully that should get me going for a bit. Any more ideas on the circled pics? Inhibitor, etc?

first 1 on the flyhwheel houseing is the crank sensor, no required, the one on the breather pipes is for fuel emmision purposes and bit that. They rod on the back of engine is the kickdown and connects to the carb. The thing on the gear linkage is probely the inhibitor or reverse switch, cant remember which

Thanks, crank sensor eh? I'm confused because unless MG made a spi version, this head doesn't have the heater tapped, hence why I though it was a MG version. The inhibitor switch I wasn't sure if that was it, or it was the reverse switch... Lastly the kickdown looks different then my 998 because it is not "U" shaped at the end to connect to the carb linkage but rather "L" shaped, I wonder if I can just bend it up to connect it. Most of those are small details, cause atleast I can get it in the car and fiddle with the rest once I am further along. Hopefully should be a nice improvement in power over the 998 auto.

the kick down rod is shaped that way as it looks like the auto you have is an spi engine. like stated above the first picture is the crank sensor which picks up on the reluctor ring to pickup engine timing. the 2nd picture is the evaporative loss system or charcoal canister which is also spi. the swith im not sure about as i thought the reverse swith was the one on the front on the valve chest at the front under the steel bracket but don;t quote me on it...

MG? There weren't Auto MGs, and it''s not a Metro engine. It's definitely injection, it's a late spec SPi Mini engine.

Alright, well looking at the pics it looks like a SPI motor, sorry not to familiar with those since I have only seen one in person, and they are generally illegal here anyway. Also the did have Automatics in Metro's. So what kind of starter would this take then a pre-engaged one then?

Yes they did have the auto in Metros, but not in MG Metros. Not all Metros are MG Metros, MG was a separate branch of the organisation making different model cars based on the originals produced (at the time) by Austin Rover.
