Afternoon chaps, I'm looking at removing the complete lower scuttle section as It's pretty rusty/damaged all over, plus I need to get underneath to do additional welding to the upper bulkhead/dash rail which is being covered by the scuttle, now drilling off the spot welds is straight forward as most of us all ready know, but what I don't know is how do you cut the scuttle pillar ends?

Does anyone have any pictures that could help/show me how you go about cutting here, and what's best to use to cut this piece out with.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Chris

I use a grinder with a 1mm cutting disc going very careful with how far you cut as you don't want to cut into other panels, I usually finish off with a air saw to finish the ends but if you don't have these a hacksaw will do the same just slower.

However please REMEMBER that the wiring loom unless removed runs through behind this panel in the channel on the right hand side or n/s so please bear that in mind

Thanks for that Corrado vr6, would the 1mm cutting disc be part of a dremmel set? I have a dremmel, but never thought of using it. And, as for the wiring loom, no need to worry about that, as the loom is going to be replaced having not run (mini van) for the last 22 years, as all the connectors are rusty, and the wiring itself is rather brittle.

the dremmal would be ideal for this as its smaller and more control

when i get home i will take some pictures for you, as i have just replaced my scuttle and you are still able to see where we have cut it all in, and welded it both miggin it to the pillars and spot welded along the inside! the best thing to so is clamp it in place both sides, then cut both the new scuttle piller and the old toghether in order for it to line up perfectly, then take the new scuttle off clean in up nicely etc etc and clamp it back up, making sure both sides are nicely lined up before being welded in place! then begin welding, i started by welding the two pillar ends then spot welded it all the way along to ensure its not going to come off in a hurry.

also the tools i used to get it all off was a mini air saw and the obvious spot weld drill (mines the kind that starts drilling then pushes itself onto the spot weld)
and then a chisel in order to pry any remaining weld apart
