Yea, Im thinking of putting my 13 x 8 alleycats on the front, and buying a pair of 13 x 7 alleycats for the front.
Exactly how many wheels can you put on the front of your car then Binge?

I've been asked by my brother whether anyone's ever fitted 13s on the rear with 12s on the front, and as I haven't ever heard of it I thought I'd ask you lot. Anyone ever heard of this before?
and begs one question why would you ever want to

Dunno, I guess it was just a train of thought. They probably said the same thing to Issigonis too when he suggested turning the engine round 90 degrees!

I'd have to also ask this question! most cars with larger rear wheels are Rear Wheel Drive! A mini would not benefit from it at all!

If you do go down this strange road of different wheel sizes and put 13s on the back 12s on the front or you fit 13x8 and 13x7 you will need to carry 2 spares because you cant mix them on the same axel and if you get a puncher it will always be in the one you don’t have.
Why can't you? Many spare wheels are alot thinner than the standard wheels on a car. IE a car with alloys usually has a steel one in the boot which is a lot thinner.

I doubt that. He had a reason. And a good one at that!
I guess there would be small issues. The tyre sizes would not give the exact same diameter, so there may be issues with over/understeer and maybe some other funny handling and ride traits. But I just don't see the point!
Oh, and yes many spacesavers ar much narrower, and even different wheel diameters than the main wheels (althought the tyre makes up for it), so I don't see this as an issue even though there are limitations on mileage/speed, I would think that's more down to the spare tyre spec rather than the size.

If you just fit another road wheel of a different size on the same axel then it’s against the law
You would not get an mot with different sizes on the same axel so the car is not fit 4 the road
