I have just removed the near side tower bolt, I have tried to replace it and it does not want to seat correctly. The thread starts but then becomes extremely tight, I am concerned that the bolt is trying to cross thread itself.

Has any body else experienced this? It is as if the internal thread in the tower needs to be cleaned with a tap, has anyone tried this.

Very frustrating as I do not want to force the bolt and strip all the thread. Any advice very much appreciated.

Not sure if it is just mine, but mine starts off a little tight, but then feels normal after a few more turns.
It's strange as this shouldn't be the case, but recently I have had my tower bolts out alots whilst messing with my front ones and it has been the same every time putting them back in.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply, the drivers side tower bolt screws in place with ease, the problem bolt on the near side starts easy enough for a couple of turns but then really tightens up indicative of a cross threaded feel. I really do not want to strong arm it an strip the threads completely .

Why did you take the bolt out ? It may be mis-aligned now..... Perhaps slacken - but don't remove! - the other bolt. Then apply oil and try again.

Some jiggling of the subframe to line up with the chassis, plenty of lubricant and patience got this pesky bolt back in. The bolt originally came out very easily, I think the thread in subframe picked up a piece of dirt/ swarf causing the problem in replacing the bolt.

I had the same issue with mine. Shine a tourch down the hole to see what way it is miss aligned
On mine I just used a smal leaver bar to move the subframe across a tad then the bolt dropped straight in & done up nicely

Uh , i though that the tower bolt is for securing the rubber cone in its place? , if i understand correctly it only keeps subframe to chassis ? :-/ :shy:

Nope

Yep holds the subframe to the body (or the body to the subframe!)
