Hi guys

I'm considering buying a 123 distributor, when I was on Minispares I noticed that the difference in price for a vac unit 123 and non vac is almost £50.

My engine is a 1293 MG Metro with 1.5.1 rockers, am I ok to buy one with without vacuum? or could someone explain to me which one I'd need.

I would rather not go the Megajolt route.....

Cheers

Dont know how adjustable the 123 is but its unlikely it will have sufficient range of settings to enable it to compare with the benefits which vacc gives you by way of economy and the chance of a decent idle. Hopefully someone will have experience of it.

The 123 has 16 preset advance curves in it and typically comes with recommendations for various engine build types. It will be adjustable enough for most people. The advance curves are all electronic. Like traditional distributors it will not affect the idle nature of your engine. Your cam choice and any flywheel modifications will have the biggest impact on idle characteristics. In your case, the 1.5 rocker arms may affect idle but not the distributor... not directly.

The vacuum advance is an economy feature on carburetors. It is not there to give you power or performance. That is true of Lucas, Delco, 123... etc. If you use your Mini as daily transportation and are concerned about fuel economy, buy the 123 with the vacuum advance. If on the other hand you are only concerned with developing power from the engine and not concerned with fuel economy, buy the unit without the vacuum advance.
