Very simple to do.........take speaker, screw onto dash, wire up, fit trim! Done!

Unscrew air vents, then take out.
Screw to the back or front (if your planning on enlarging the holes)
done.
do you really need pictures, have a go...

Lose the vents. Weld up the holes in the inner wings too. Total rust traps and they don't really provide much air through them either seeing as they aren't fan assisted!
Eh?... Admittedly they don't provide much ventilation at very low speeds, but as they duct to the front of the car, the faster you go, the more air you get and the faster the air flow. Mine are like a hurricane when going at anything above about 30 mph!
As for rust traps, if you fit plastic wheel arch liners , (which I would recommend in any case, if you don't want your front end to rot away in a matter of a just a few years), then salt, dirt and rain water can get no where near them. I wouldn't remove the air vents from for all the tea in china, the classic mini is prone enough to corrosion as it is, without actively encouraging condensation issues as well.

Surely this is pretty straight forward?

done.

I'dd add sealing up the big hole in the inner wing to that list!

This is quite a common mod but it also involves loosing your air vents, thereby reducing ventilation, creating a condensation problem and car that you then have to drive with the windows open, particularly in the winter. It's a better idea to mount them behind the dash, but in the bottom of the front parcel shelf, so that the sound is projected downwards into the front foot wells. That way they are hidden away from view and you also get the benefit of keeping your air vents, both in terms of ventilation and classic mini styling.
I take on your point about ventilation, but from an audio reproduction point of view, this is a terrible way to install speakers.

So explain my car.........with the inner arches cleaned to every few months?

But yeh vents are crap, window wound down a tad is far more effective. Far greater volume of air than the tiny vents can ever give.
And to the OP I look forward to seeing your speakers fitted! :)

Probably just poor rust proofing in the first place. As longs as it treated and painted properly and arch liners are used, there is no reason why you can avoid this problem.
