Hi people,

I have a '78 clubby estate. It currently has two dials (speedo and temp gauge) and i recently bought a walnut dash that came with the 1275 GT dials including a rev counter.

I had a look behind the 2-dial setup and the metal brackets to which the two dials are attached seem as though they may need changing if I want to fit a dash with 3 dials.

Is this the case? Do I need new brackets?

Cheers,

Oli

New brackets are required for the three clock set. The rev counter also has two extra wires ( Ignition posative(white) and Coil negative (white with black))that conect dirrectly to it rather than being part of the printed circuit

If you're going to use the dash then you won't need a new bracket as the clocks are mounted to the dash itself. You will need to remove your existing bracket, it's bolted through the bulkhead and you will find four nuts for it in the engine bay around the master cylinders. If you are going to fit the clock in the standard binnacle then you will need a new bracket and binnacle.
You should find the additional wiring connectors for the tacho taped back to the outside of the loom near the clock connector.
You may need a new speedo cable as the end fitting has changed many times, also the new speedo may not be calibrated the same as the one you remove.

Also I've just noticed that you said the clocks you are fitting were from a 1275GT. Do you know the age of that car? If the clocks came from a pre '76 car then it may be completely incompatible with your current wiring.

I don't know the year of the car that the dials came off unfortunately.

I live in swindon and my car is stuck in Stroud (Glos) with a seized clutch so can't get to it now but will check on the weekend and purchase a new speedo cable if necessary.

By the sound of it, as the new clocks are mounted to the dash, I won't need the extra brackets which would be great.

WIll let you know how it goes.

Thanks guys,

-Oli

you will have to remove the old clock mount though as it will foul the back of your dash! ;D
there are 4 bolts in the bulkhead just behind the master cylinders in the engine bay!
