I have a 1993 1275 carb mayfair that is registered as an Austin NOT a Rover or Austin-Rover. Its a strange car as it has all the pipes and ecu take offs but no computer unit and it has a carb. the chassis and engine numbers are also for a carb so im not sure why it has the wires and pipes (some not connected to anything) it also has the RSP wheels (not sure if these were standard as its had 5 owners before me(technically 7 but one was my dad from before i could drive and the people i bought it off swapped it between them once i think)
does any one have any idea why its like that or what it is.

Maybe it was an old car - that was re-registered after a reshelling... and the engine was replaced but not the loom etc.. I don't know much about this sort of thing - just a guess.

Unless..... it came through a time portal.. .... doesn't explain the V5 though :S

the RSP wheels where just Rover minilite copies, they where used on non-RSP mass production minis.

You'll prlly find it could have had an injection engine and it was swapped to a carbed one, hence all the spares on the loom.

Have you tried using guessworks engine no identification number decoder?

what your mini is registered as will depend on what the dealer called it when the car was first registered minis were registered as all sorts and combinations

what age is your mini as it might help to understand the extra wiring ?

they only made 1000 or 1200 rsp sets i think though

but all the other ones around that time were rovers, i have 2 1993 built 1994 registered 1275 carb mayfairs and the other one is a rover with no spi stuff at all!!! or RSP wheels

There are some model cross-overs; we have a 96 SPi, made wrong-hand drive for export to Germany that seems to have a MPi-based wiring loom used for non-UK spec fittings such as adjusting headlamps. Might be a similar issue here, a SPi/carburettor crossover? (edit due to typos)

The RSP wheels where not special just to the RSP. The RSP was a special edition cooper model that was the first mini made after Rover took over from British Leyland. It was one of the first minis since the 60's of which John Cooper actually had a hand in designing, as BL didn't see the value of making special cooper minis in middle to late 70's and 80's.

You are correct in saying there was about 1000 made, but after that some of the design features where carried over to the mainstream, non RSP cooper. one of which was the Rover Minilite Copies. You could have RSP ones or you could have one of the many Cooper mainstream ones. I believe they where also used on any non sports pack mini that rover made...

really? Whats the difference in design between the RSP/Mainstream cooper wheels than the other minilite style wheels on most of the other rover mini's?

Stud holes inline or offset from the spokes. RSPs are inline.
