Feedback on the headlights of all opinions is invited! You have to see them in the flesh to appreciate them really though!

Well I have finally got round to fitting the exhaust and I'm so pleased! It helps make the car actually look quite complete at the back end!! The exhaust is a Playmini large bore side exit with a playmini stainless centre section (no silencer) going to a Stage 2 Maniflow LCB (unfortunately I couldn't afford the stainless version of that so it's normal mild steel)

Here are some pictures:

Still need to get round to rebuildling the carbs, fit both the fuel tanks and get it running! Plus a few suspension tweaks and some electrical gremlins to get round too - then it's gonna be finished!!

Hi everyone - once again a long time since my last update!

I just don't have much time to work on my Mini!!
Any way, I've had some time to look at rebuilding the carbs and fitting them! :o

I cleaned them up using a dremel type tool with wire brush attachments to rid of any slight corrosion on the float chambers, linkages and manifold etc. They came up very well! I was very happy! I haven't quite finished polishing the dashpot covers but thats easy even on the car (couple of screws and they're off to polish!!)

I have a second set of twin SU's that have a nicer throttle linkage with smoother action and better location for the accel cable - but upon trying to fit this to my set I found that the other set were slightly wider than mine. So the linkage was too wide and I couldn't fit it ;D So I had to make do with the old simple one.

Unfortunately I put the whole assembly together but forgot to put my polished stainless heatshields on! Doh! So I had to disassemble them again to fit these in as they are sandwiched between the carb and manifold.

Once together I then found that the bar that links the heatshields together was designed for the width of my other carbs that I had - therefore being too long to fit to mine :gimme: So I had to widen the holes on it so that I could fit it ( I need to fit it as the accel return springs fit onto it!!)

Anyway, i finally got it one the car and tightened (although this was difficult as the exhaust was already fitted and being pushed forward from the backbox meant the manifold wanted to move away from the head.... :w00t: that and the fact that a Mini bonnet is really low and my back started getting really achy...)

Any way - for the first time in 6 years my Mini has carburettors fitted!! :shifty:
I need to tidy the fuel pipes; I might use the copper piping from the other set, and I need to plug up the hole where the anti run-on valve used to be!

Pictures do a thousand words so here you go!!

That car is just amazing in epic proportions. It looks so tidy and you can see the hard work gone into her/him! :shifty:

May I ask what bore PlayMini exhaust you bought ( silencer ) as I am looking at getting one simular and why you chose PlayMini over Maniflow, RC40 etc ?

Thanks

Hi Robfox! I bought the large bore Playmini exhaust (thats what the website called it - i'm not exactly sure of the bore size (3"?) )
I bought it from Minisport.

I chose this as I like the tailpipe design looks wise; I like the simple rolled tip and the large size of it! A friend of mine had the same system a few years ago and it sounded good too (I haven't started mine up yet though!) I was told the quality was good and I was pleased when I received it and fitted it as it was up to the standard I expected. I hope this helps! Any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!!

Cheers, Kieran

Thanks for the info Kieran :P ,,

Im with you on that, I prefer the rolled up side exit exhausts over the other ones. I have what seems to be a truck silencer on mine so I need to get a new exhaust soonish :trooper:. May I ask was the PlayMini hard to fit ?

Thanks Rob.

Hi Tony,

I got the headlights from eBay around Xmas time last year; I'll try to find a link to the seller when I can get access to a pc which doesn't just do eBay mobile!

Cheers!

Well, i went to my first mini show of the year (purely because i keep forgetting when they are and making other plans... ) but it was Mini in the park at Santa Pod! It was very good and some bargains were to be had in the autojumble!

I picked up a wiper set for only £20 which i thought was good! You can tell the washers and the blanks are quite cheap- in fact the washer jets had to be filed down in size to fit through the hole in the scuttle! But They are fitted and look awesome! It's nice to se some bits on the car that help make it look more finished! Unfortunately the wipers dont' work and neither does the washer motor  I think a fuse has gone somewhere or the stalk is broken!

Here is a pic

Also started to get the worst actual job on this mini done - remove the tape from the engine bay from when it was painted 6 years ago... masking tape is a  to get off when it's this old! My dad has some really good adhesive remover which does the job really well but it just takes alot of patience! I've finshed half of it but here is what it looked like before:
