I have suggested for a little while that another Mini might be on the way, and it is finally home. I agreed to buy the car some time ago and have only just got it home this morning - I say home, my sister has no idea its going to spend a few months on her drive  Luckily the brother in law loves old cars so its all good.

Anyway, it is a Austin 1000 Automatic, on an old V (79). First job is the MOT (brother-in-law hopefully taking it in this week!). I'm then back from Germany in a couple of weeks to sort out any issues. Then a tidy up and overhaul are the order of the day - switch drums to disks, period seats with head rests, tidy and clean interior (probably remove dash and go back to centre console), and a damn good clean! Once all that is done, I want to put a manual engine in it. I was going to keep it standard, but I really would rather have a manual than an auto so I'll keep the engine for if I come to sell it.

I couldn't stop grinning all the way back, looking at it in the mirror on the recovery truck. I drove it just into my road and onto the drive and I had forgotten how much fun it could be! I can't wait to have this little car back on the road!

So here are some pics:

Now I just need a name. I already have a 92 Cooper called Oliver, and he now has a little sister. My brother is going to give me some stick about the EMO bit on the plate. Two name suggestions so far - Chilindrina (Girlfriend's choice, cartoon she used to watch, but ugly >_<) & Ambrosia from my brother.

I might stick with Emo.

I can't make my mind up about the dash. I do like it, but I think I will change the dials to more useful ones, eventually anyway. Might put some in on the passenger side as well, nice bit of symmetry. The top is all cracked though, I hope it can peel off so I can recover it. It has matching door cappings etc, but they are all a bit battered as well and could do with a refresh so if I can get them all looking good I might keep them.

There are a few little areas of rust that need sorting, but nothing major. All the sills appear solid and the subframes are ok as well. The bonnet needs redoing as it is peeling in places. The brother-in-law suggested a black bonnet - I'm considering that as it could look quite smart. The paint job looks a bit ropey in places, but as a run around for a few months it is more than decent enough.

I'm really pleased with it. Just a shame it is raining and it has no tax, MOT or insurance yet. Insurance all be sorted tomorrow though.

Oh he's ace! I'd call him Wall-e. And I'd get him running sweeeet with a manual box, change the dash to black vinyl & keep him scruffy on the exterior.

He cute. Me like.

Thanks. I still can't make up my mind about the dash. I do like it but the condition isnt great. I like the idea of the black dash - maybe a black wood dash. That's something to ponder.

A manual is definitely on the cards, but MOT first. I'm just annoyed that's it's sitting in te UK with me in Germany unable to do anything at the moment.

I have a black wood dash in my MG ZR, looks the biz. Its plastic but looks modern and posh, if you could get some vinyl print to wrap the dash in would look the biz!

I'm not sure of the exact colour. I also have suspicions its not the original colour. There is a tiny bit of blue I have found. Also, you can't see from the pics but the paint is darker around panel edges etc. I love the colour though, the yellow and black works really well. If it gets rebuilt after the Cooper, it will be redone in the same colours.

Its because the black and yellow works well I can't decide about wheels and grill. I love over riders, but I think they would look better with a chrome grill. I like the black wheels as well but would also like some Minilites. I am liking the untidy look though. Too many decisions to make on it.
