Well it depends, if you get lonely on long journeys then having a cat can be a useful companion. I'd recommend keeping it in one of those cat boxes though, as having it wandering around the car can be dangerous.

And as yours is a 1989 then it will have no catalytic convertor and therefore a standard non cat RC40 system will be fine.

your car probably does not have a cat so get a exhaust that is for a car without a cat.

unless you are postman pat and then its a whole different story

it depends if you go for a new exhaust manifold too.

I believe there is something called a 'Magic Pipe' which allows you to fit an RC40 system onto a standard cast iron manifold set-up.

Alternatively if you fit a Cooper Freeflow (998) or an LCB (1275) exhaust manifold, a new inlet manifold will be required too.

And if you do those modifications a rolling road tune would be a very sensible idea too!

then you will definitely need a new inlet manifold too.

the standard manifold has the inlet and exhaust joined together

well thats annoying! so im probably better off getting a stage one kit without a needle because i wont be able to get it to a rollin road for a couple of weeks. or shall i just get a stage one ond run it horribly for a while??

I wouldn't recommend running with your original needle as chances are it will run lean and cause all sorts of problems.

Get the needle thats recommended for your set up (I'm assuming 998 Stage 1?) and then get it RR'd ASAP.

a cat isnt realy a pet to keep in a car

try a dog as they like to stick their head out of car windows when going fast ;D

i have removed the cat from my 1990 mini and MOT's are not a problem
