Any jack will do. Anyway you go, never jack it on the sills, jack it on the subframes. MUCH stronger!

No, any jack will not do.

A lot of modern cars have jacks that are specifically designed for that car and wont fit a Mini.
However, most scissor jacks will be OK if they have a flat lifting platform and you can position it under the subframe.

Yeah, go for a scissor jack if it's to carry in the boot, more chance of getting it under the car

I would go for a scissors jack in the boot!
I was carrying a small trolly jack and when i did get a flat that car was sitting so low i couldn't get the jack under an appropriate place.
In the end i fashioned a ramp using slices of trees which where lying by the road and drove up onto it. A real pain and can you imagine doing all that in the rain

Or get an early van jack, if you can find one. It is low-lying so will easily go under, and specifically made to jack on the strong parts of the subframes. Make sure you get the ratchet with it. A scissors jack is next best, perfectly ok, but bigger and heavier.

minis are a lot lower than most car's, what ever you buy make sure it fits under the car

I took mine out of a mk3 fiesta, and it's a scissor jack and is suitable.
