There was a thread running on this a week or two ago where I said I had contacted the Department for Transport for a definative answer, well here it is;
Dear James
You are permitted to add markings etc to a vehicle. However, if the markings are retro reflective they must meet the requirements of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, as amended (RVLR). These Regulations can be read at: http://www.opsi.gov....891796_en_1.htm
Yours sincerely

Subject: Displaying Numbers on Car doors....
Hi, Having asked various people about this, I thought it prudent to ask yourselves as I have been receiving conflicting information. Is it legal to have a white circle (or square) on your front car doors with a number displayed in them similar to what is seen on racing cars ? People have said you can't have a number full stop, or you can but it has to have a line through it, or you can and it is perfectly legal ! Not wishing to break any laws in this respect please could you advise what the current legislation has to say about this ? I have spent a good amount of my time searching the internet but cannot find mention of it an! ywhere ! Thank you in advance for your assistance. Regards James
Mods I started a new thread as I thought you might want to put in FAQ and the other one was a couple of pages long.....
