I went to a paint shop today to get my colour verified so i could get a few bits touched up on the car. The guy took some numbers down of my VIN and did some magic on his computer and apparently my VIN was showing Cinnabar Red and Black (the guy said its black black).

Just wandering if any minis were sold with black roof's as standard?

Is it a mk1?
I've seen a rough mk1 mini on someone's drive that's red with a black roof, and I know someone who used to have a different early red mini with a black roof. If yours is an early one it seems quite a coincidence that you can also get a model of a red mk1 with a black roof too

Mk1 Supers and Coopers were available with contrasting roof colours, (along with MK 2's and rover Coopers ) however no MK 1 will have the colour code in the vin number.

Mines not a mk1, its an '82. #was planning on spraying the roof black in the summer anyway. Perhaps some1 had the VIN re-done in the past by an owner if they put a black roof for future reference

Thanks guys

Red Mk1 & 2 Mini Coopers came with a black roof, surprisingly only the works rally Mini's had a white roof and also of course the later 1990's on Mini Coopers and some special editions.

I was rallying in a red Mini with a white roof the year before the 'works' did so. However, the roof got painted white after the car was rolled and we thought white on a tartan red car would look nice.
When I bought my first new car, a 998 Cooper, in 1964 I ordered a red one, but had the dealer paint the black roof white prior to delivery.

Our wolseley hornet has a coloured roof. It's down as white/maroon.

What it should look like http://slatford.co.u...kII_preview.jpg
