and bit on the joints where 2 gaskets meet & gear selector seal
it can cause problems if a lot is squeezed out inside the engine , and breaks off
as the oil strainer tends to clog a bit and bits can get into oil gallery's
(all my opinion)

On the rocker cover gasket, I put sealant between the cover and gasket, to keep it in place as one-peice... on the other I use grease so that the gasket doe't 'break up' and I can re-use it without any faff.

+1Use a very small amount of RTV on the lower half of both sides of the front plate and timing cover gaskets. Or use a late model gasket here as the MPi versions have the RTV built in so the dose is exactly right.
and use sealant between rocker cover and cork gasket.

Is instant gasket OK to use between the rocker and a cork gasket?
Chris
Yes, Instant Gasket is just an RTV rubberised sealant.

Excellent... I'm changing mine this weekend now I've stripped and painted the old rocker.
Cheers!
