Carp rods tend to be a bit stiff for general float fishing (waggler/float rod is what you need) Have a look on www.dragoncarpdirect.com the quality is good for what you pay. If you think minis can be expensive Maver have just brought a pole out for £8000 !!!!

Thanks for that looks like a good site.
Never tried pole fishing before, worth a go?

My sons the fisherman, uses a pole regular, as far as i can see with a pole you can accuratley fish the same place or get in under over hanging trees, out fishing tonight till about 7, caught nothing !

i'm a very keen angler too, i have a 13m maver pole and it is really good. as for your questions i would say it depends on what your after and where you fish. if your looking into doing a lot of fishing for whatever you can catch i.e big roach, dace, tench, bream etc i would say look into buying both a 13ft match rod, a decent pole around 11m long with as many top kits as you can get in the deal, the top kits are extra tips so you can have various different elastic strengths for different situations. if you get 3 top kits you should elasticate them (inc your one which comes with the pole) with a number 6,8,10 and 12 elastic. the smaller the number elastic the easier it is to stretch. the number 6 elastic is really good for river fishing for anything up to about 2lb fish, number 8 elastic for fish up to about 6lb and 10 and 12 elastic for bigger. i have a top kit with some 12 elastic and landed a 13lb carp with relative ease. one thing to try and do is buy one which your budget can stretch to. the more expensive the pole the straighter and lighter it is at length. dont skimp on a reel either as you will probably end up buying another very shortly after. try and get a reel with various spools so you can change the line poundage whenever required.
i would forget the carp rod on ebay unless you want to fish for big carp/catfish. its not just the case of being geared up for anything as the carp rod will lose you more smaller fish than the above believe it or not as when you strike you will "bump" the hook from its mouth. this is the same for the elastics on the pole too. dont just go for a 16 elastic and think it will cope with all fish, you need to be geared up for what you will probably catch and keep everything balanced
i.e..
down the local river for small medium fish on..
.. the pole, 6 or 8 elastic 3lb mainline with a 1.8lb hooklength, size 20 hook
.. the rod, 4lb mainline 2lb hooklength size 18 hook
the pond for big carp, tench, bream..
.. pole, 10 or 12 elastic, 4lb mainline, 3lb hooklength size 16 hook
.. rod, 5lb mainline 3.5lb hooklength size 14/16 hook
sorry to bore you, i love fishing. if you need any more advice just give me a shout.
tight lines tomorrow :)

Cheers Its no different than going into depth about minis if that's your thing :)
Kids have woken me up a bit early and im almost ready to go
got an hour to wait yet tho LOL
Seen another sales ad someone selling a 3 peice rod, rod pod, 6 reels 4 poles and a few bits. Only wants £30! Bit late now to check it out but if I enjoy today I'll have a look this afternoon, seems like a lot of kit for not a lot of money.
Will take the digi camera incase I catch anythin larger than a minnow
