This has probably been asked lots but I can't find a clear discussion using the search and I am constantly amazed by the know-how within this forum - so here goes:
Does anyone still make-up the old style fabric wrapped looms? I am restoring a very tired Mk1 and it would be great to keep her as original as possible.
I guess I could look for NOS or maybe a good secondhand one from fleabay or similar, but I just wondered if there was anyone still making them.
Just for interest, does anyone know how the fabric covering was actually made-up and wrapped on to the looms, I guess a special machine (where would I get one, what do they look like and does anyone have experience of them?)? Maybe not such a dumb set of questions, I got this mini from a guy who worked on the original production line and he reckoned he did lead seam fills on the very early ones. Living memory - it's great when you can benefit from it!

Try AutoSparks in Nottingham.
They can provide a loom with the metal style bulb holders - the ones from Minispares use plastic (or they did the last time I bought one)

And just to answer the other part of the question
http://www.alibaba.c...ng_machine.html
Yes I know that's for shoe-laces but a large part of the factory I work in is dedicated to wiring looms and there are machines just like that with reels of stainless steel wire instead of yarn. The wiring loom is pulled through the middle whilst the bobbins dance around the outside. Very similar to a maypole.
