hey folks,

Just having a look at central locking kits with remote keyless entry that controls the alarm as well...

Moss sell it all for about £180 quid in total, but before i splash out, just thought i'de check some things out with you guys first:

Has anyone used this kit? If so, would you recommend it in general

also

here is the alarm...

http://www.moss-euro...icMini_UKCM-005

can anyone who has it or knows something about alarms have any suggestions on whether its any good and most importantly if its one of these alarms that just goes off all the time for nowt strikes me if thats the case the whole thing is pointless

cheers in advance

I've used that alarm on my last two Mini's now and I think it's pretty good. The actual alarm isn't made by Moss (unsurprisingly), they just make an adapter harness so that it's easy to fit. The alarm is an American unit. It's got all the tricks and toys that you expect of a high end alarm, but it's not as good as a Clifford or something like that (sounds like a Clifford though, same sounder so it makes all the right noises and makes the right impression on the opposition) It doesn't go off at random, the shock and glassbreak detectors are tuneable for sensitivity. It's got two stage shock so a light knock just sets off a warning and the glassbreak is the sonic detector type. It doesn't have untrasonic volume protection.

You've got it the wrong way around though, the alarm controls the central locking not the other way around. You don't need the keyless entry kit to go with it or the keyless entry central locking kit or the central locking Rover alarm adapter. All you need is the alarm and a normal central locking kit. The central locking works very well when fitted properly and adjusted right. Makes the car much more modern and easy to live with. Makes your door keys and locks last longer before they wear out too! Just remember that it doesn't control the boot lock.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I notice it's not a Cat 1 alarm, does this mean the insurance won't be cheaper?

Correct, It has to be a Cat1 alarm, and you must have a certificate to proove to the insurance. Bit of a bummer really.

We get a little Green BOC mini come into work every now and then for tyres etc. Hes an old fella who owns it, And its a lovely little motor.

Cooper S on N reg I think. Its got Leccy windows, Central Locking, Alarm etc. Even got an Adjustable Fan speed switch. Was Well impressed with it! :-

Was even more impressed when the windows closed automatically with the central locking!!

Poo about the alarm, insurance isn't too much anyway - know someone who does insurance.

Yeah I was looking through the electrics on moss, I fancy having some electrics in mine, about £500 for the lot. Also £180 for electric windows :- , i better start saving.
