Hi there,

My cordless drill just went bust and I am looking to replace it ideally with a corded one as I hear they are more powerful & of course better for prolonged use.

However, I am on a bit of a student budget so looking for something cheap but adequate for drilling holes etc into metal. (Will primarily be used for work on the mini).

All I can seem to find is hammer drills of the corded type
http://www.machinema...50-hammer-drill

I am not sure if you can turn off the hammer feature as I won't need it?!

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,

Abe

Bosch power drills are good value and the hammer-action can be 'on' or 'off' at the flick of a switch.

Yes the hammer function can be turned off. Atleast I've never come across one where it can't.

I've got a cheap draper drill from wilko's. £22 IIRC. It does the job, never felt the need for anything better...

Ah thank you both the for quick replies! :) I have had no experience with hammer drills so was not sure.

So do you think this http://www.toolstati...0/sd2670/p62643 one would be up for the job? It's only £20 and free delivery!

Id go for makita, they are extremely good tools! They are really well made, the only problem we've had with outed is the chuck has broken, but that was easily replaced.

thank you all for your advice! Unfortunately my budget won't allow me to go for the Makita so I will be buying a Clarke hammer drill from Machine Mart :) Hopefully it will last long!

Thanks again for all the replies, wasn't expecting there to be so many haha!

Regards,

Abe

Have a look in palladium, i think they have resonable prices. I get my tools from there but then my mum works there so i get good deals. I know around xmas time they do big sales but not sure about easter. I got a Bachco ratchet set for £22 instead of £120 something in the xmas sale (thats not on staff either)

Cheap drills are *******, wont ever last, i used to kill them every 6 months or so...

I bought a royobi 2 years ago, never had a problem with it, still going strong and showing no signs of letting go soon.

Hey thanks for the suggestion mate! Unfortunately I live near town & don't have transportation so Palladium is a bit of a trek. Machine Mart isn't too far so I will just pop down there sometime this week as I need it for next weekend. But will surely check Palladium out for tools if I am up that area :)

Yes I realise if you buy cheap it won't last long. That's why I am not going for the £20 toolstation drill haha
The Clarke one from Machine Mart suggested by ANON seems decent enough & is at the top end of my budget!
The Makita range and other name brands seem quite expensive for my purposes :/
