Okay, I may have asked this before but I have a 1275 A+ engine and a 1961 mk1 as stated, but I would like to know what is involved in converting an 850 remote change a series, to a 1275 A+ rod change, I have looked into 1275 cooper s and 1275GT engines to make it easier but cannot find one. If anyone has one in good condition to offer I Would happily offer good money as I woud like the car to remain '60s spec. But, if someone could give me a full list of what is required to convert a complete a series 850 to a 1275 a+ which currently has nothing except for block, head and gearbox and rocker with all internals inside but no ancillaries that would be great.
By the way my current options are as follows:
Modify 848cc engine and magic wand gearbox to period 60s fast road/race spec.
Buy period 60s/70s a series 998/1275 engine and modify to fast road/race spec.
Use the 1275 A+ engine I already have and go down the big bore/forced induction route.
Personally I would rather keep to 60s spec, and I will be using cooper s/1275gt brakes and suspension and AO32R tyres so the control side is sorted, just the engine to worry about which is why I am calling on you folks to help my decisio
Any help or criticism is much appreciated and will be taken into account.
Many Thanks,
Fraser

The only thing I'd worry about is cutting into the shell for the selector mechanism, if the mods are easily reversible it won't effect the value any more than having an original power unit that's clapped out.

you might even engineer a solution to put a gear selector through the magic wand hole.

That's a nice piece of kit but for £575 I'd sooner cut a hole in the floor

Get a template and cut a neat remote shift hole in the floor then use a kit from Mini Mania to mount the rod change shifter in the early round tunnel.

keep a period engine imo weather it be a 850, 998 or 1275 and dont cut the floor, its rare if its origional so i would have a little play with the 850 to be honest i loved my 850 motor lol just never gave up

You say '850 remote control' - in which case - use that box ! If indeed it's a porridge stirrer - well, just use that and keep it all original. Have you seen the price 'original' Mk I cars are fetching these days ?? Don't cut any holes in it!

You could set up some brackettry to mount an rod change in side the car, use the selector shaft and add a couple of UJs like you to an internal linkage, and use the standard remote holes. :proud:

Also, you could have a word with the Meadows, at Woodbridge classic cars, they might be able to help you on how you could do it. Presuming you meant Woodbridge nr. Ipswich?

Don't forget that you really do need to upgrade the brakes! The existing drums are marginal even with an 850.
