To my knowledge I have a MK1 bonnet hence why I can't but the top chrome piece on, I was wondering if I bought the Mk1 moustache I could remove the sides and fit it straight on?

I just read up on a mk1 grill swap. Doesn't seem to hard. Drill a few holes for mounting , maybe aa bracket and its pretty much done.

the MK1 grill is slightly smaller so you might need some holes filling in and a bit of repainting

Ive got a Mk1 Grille and tash on mine. Its fitted with two screws. One each side going through the metal plates behind the slats and into the body. The tash is sandwiched behind it and doesn't move at all. Most people screw the tash onto the body as well but i didn't need too.

So it was literally a case of taking the old sides and grill off, and attaching the new grill and tash without any problems?

no the MK1 grill is differant to yours if u look at your grill it sort ot tucks in at the base where as the MK1 grill doesnt tuck in so the tash wouldnt line up with the grill

Mine originally had the same grille as yours, but i removed it. Removed the lip from the bonnet and attached the grill and tash as i described in the previous post i made.

It does fit differently, if you take the grill you have off, you will see a recessed section. The Mk1 grill basically fits in that recessed area.

I went the other way - when I bought mine it had the Mkq stuff but was a Mk4 shell with the internal hinges and square rear lamps so kind of did not look right. I bought the genuine bonnet lip from MOSS Spares and attached it to the bonnet with self tappers all along, infact the same self tappers used to hold the top finishing strip onto the lip!

I have the old MK1 stuff hanging up in my garage if you want to go the whole way, its the stainless slatted type with a space for external bonnet release and the moustache and end bits. PM me if you are interested - would only want some beers!

RM.
