Hi,

Recently, my heater may work for five minutes into the journey, then stop working, then ten minutes later kick in again for another few minutes, before cutting out for another 10 minutes or so.

It's very annoying, especially in this chilly weather. :) Does anyone have an idea as to what it could be? ^_^

The car's a '92 Cooper SPi by the way. :withstupid:

Thanks a lot. Guy.

Check the electrical connections to the switch and the connection on top of the heater unit where it is joined to the loom and try replacing the switch. An almost identical switch is available among the blister packs of small parts from Halfords.

I checked the switch and all connections today, and it didn't change a thing. :w00t:

...it'll be a cold journey tomorrow morning!

Any other suggestions to try?

Thanks. Guy.

It's most probably the bushes on the motor. my first mini did this, everytime it stopped i hit it and it worked for a while again. it does mean you have to take the heater out though and strip it down.

heh doggy heaters - my brit open classy nearly caught fire because of a silly heater...thankfully the mechanic saw smoke before it burnt down the dash! I recomend a new heater - they arent much, and its piece of mind if you dont know what your doing around them

Yeah I agree, if it's not the wiring to the motor it must be the motor itself, although they're brushes not bushes :D. A whole new heater may be a bit extreme, and they ARE expensive new. You can buy just a new motor though which comes with the fan (or fans depending on age) fitted and fitting this into your existing case is a lot easier than re-brushing the motor.

There's both feed and return hoses to deal with.

Right ok it's now very cold in my mini, and as the heater does actually work, but just turns off and on every now and again, surely its not the actual heating system, but the electrics??

Does anyone have any idea's on places to look? For example, on an SPi, where would this fuse be? I doubt it's on the main 4-fuse block.

Thanks. Guy.
