Which type gear lever linkage have you got ?
If it is a rod change (most common - 2 bars between gearstick & gearbox) - then un-clip the gear lever , pull it out
and give it a clean / grease up , look for wear on the ball & nylon cup & shafts - they can take a bit of wear
also look under neath at the roll pins - they can get sloppy and even fall out
there is a plate on the bottom of the remote box that is held in with 6 screws ,
that holds the reverse ridge which the gear lever is lifted over when you select reverse
it may be worn / dirty / damaged by wear , so worth a look
