Evening all,
After seeing lots of Mini's with full width dashboards and cc's my partner has decided that one needs to go into the classic.
Custom Console's ( whom we chatted to @ Bingley ) have some nice ones. Are they particulary difficult to fit? Im no noob to using spanners and tools ect but just wanted a heads up.
Are there any other / better products on the market that can be recommended.
Cheers

I fitted one a couple of months ago and it was really easy, I'd only had my mini a couple of months and am definitely not an expert. Had 3 brackets on the back that clamp it onto the dash rails. 2 bolts on each bracket with big wing nuts on them to do up by hand. 2 of them I just reached through the glove box opening to do up, the drivers side one was a bit fiddly as you have to reach up from underneath but the wing nuts are easy enough to do by touch.

Cc's like custom console's examples just screw together around the heater. They clamp themselves in like this and are a doddle to fit.
Dashes are a little more complicated, but still straightforward. They have U shaped brackets that clamp behind the bottom and top rails. Doing up the nuts is fiddly as it has to be done through the glove box and instrument cluster hole. The instrument cluster is usually a separate bit that goes in after. Good designs ive seen have a clip on one side, and a wing nut on the other so you can tighten it by hand. (through the eyeball vent) If you are keeping the eyeball vents then you will need to extend the ducting out behind them (pringles tube method) . If your clocks are the Nippon Seiki type (mid eighties on) then you will also need to cut the plastic tubes down where the indicators are so they fit flush.
Hardest part of dash fitting I always found was re-attaching the speedo cable.

Im making headway but it doesnt say how the original dials are secured,. Do you just screw them in place?

Yes, just screw them through the original clock mounting holes into the back of the wooden dash with a few screws (usually supplied with the dash).

All done, bloody pain in the arse lol.
Top rail was mounted too tight, forgot to reconnect speedo
and the clock is slightly darker than the rest. Wierdly with the dash in place its harder to see the speedo ect as they sem to be angled downwards slightly. However, thats minor issue, its virtually done, just a cpl of adjustments to do next weekend when im back at my girlfriends.
I am pleased with the results though, pics to follow once uploaded to photobucket. :)

I'm having a hard time with my Custom Console. I ordered a dash fascia and centre console. I have yet to do the dash fascia (i thought that would be the hard part) but the centre console is proving to be a right pain. The right panel needed a little alteration to fit in properly, but my current problem is that it seems the heater control is too low. Of all the mini's ive seen and pics on the net, the heater control is flush to the underside of the rail but mine is about an inch lower? Does anyone have any ideas as to why its lower than normal? Or if i can raise it up somehow? If it fits flush then I can secure the middle panel of the centre console to the 2 side panels. Currently im driving round with half a console.

have the screws come loose or missing from the heater that attach it to the lower dash?
