Arfnoon Miniverse.

I know that there are quite a few velocipedophiles on here, and I was just wanting to pick your brains about collapsibubble bikes.

I've been commuting in the mini for 5 years now. Before I got her, I was a militant cyclist, and I'm still a weekend mtber, but I want to start commuting on 2 wheels again.

Thing is, work isn't quite a cyclable distance to then do a full day's hard toil, so I need a folding bike that I can sling on the train/bus & pedal the remaining 7 miles.

The 26" wheel I like very much, and I am reluctant to buy a smaller wheeled, however, I think it may be a necessity.

I test-rode a Montague Urban yesterday:

but it's waaaaaay too big 'n' heavy, (you'd never get it on a bus), the front wheel needs to come off & there's no way of locking it when it's folded. >_<

So, I am looking at a smaller-wheeled option now. I like the look of the Tern Link P9:

...... but there won't be any in the UK for a couple of months. >_<

I need a good variety of gears - it's hilly round here & I like to go fast on the flat, but something like a Brompton is out of my price range.

Does anybody have a tiny wheeled folder-upper? If so, what is your experience of commuting with it? Any kop over pot-holes?

Any advice gratefully received.

Ta

Have you looked at Dahon bikes, they look similar to the Tern, easy and fast to fold and they used to have a massive range. In terms of ride-ability they are pretty good you just have to get to grips witht the different feeling through the handle bars as the steering is very direct, they also accelerate quickly.

Ta, yeah. A quick googling tells me Dahon & Tern share technology (and some engineering staff....).
Coolies.
I will have a squizz....

The Dawes "jack" is a great folding bike.
There 20" wheel base slim tyres , small frame but have tall handle bars & seat. They also come with a bike pump built on to the seat post .
They ride very well & actually go quite fast
They will fold up nice & small too

I gots this last week (finally). Cyclescheme take their time in sorting out paperwork & Tern took their time delivering their bikes to the UK. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!

9 speed. Brilliant gear ratio aimed at hill climbs AND on-the-flat flying. I bunged Crank Bros pedals on her so I can use my cleats, and I now get to work faster than by mini or bus!!

I am in love with this little machine. And she fits in the mini. :proud:

Tee hee! I only noticed the sign once I had taken the pic. :shy:

There are four quick releases & then it folds. Simples. Can do it in 10 seconds.

It's not as dinky as a Brompton though, so may be tricky on a bus.
