I'm currently trying to put in a new clutch master cylinder but i've been battling (and losing) with the split pin at the top of the clutch pedal that holds the clevis pin which attaches the pump part of the cylinder to the pedal.

Starting to get very frustrated with it now, just wondered if i've missed a trick? I have the driver seat out, all the heater piping out but cant get the split pin to straighten as it just keeps spinning round with the clevis pin!!!

You need to grab the head of the clevis pin on the opposite end with something like a "Vise Grip" locking pliers to hold it while removing the split pin. Then, once the split pin is out, use the locking pliers to pull the clevis pin out.
To install, do not tighten the nuts at the base of the master cylinder. This will let you to align the clevis, pedal and pin a little easier. You will still need the locking pliers on the head of the clevis pin for clevis pin and split pin installation. The tighten the nuts at the base of the cylinder.

Hope that helps,

Ivan

i found the easiest way to do anything in that blasted little box was to sit upside down with my back on the part of the seat where you normally sit and swear cry and scream until you manage to get it out.

not very helpful, but this approach might allow you to get a better view of what you are doing.

I find this the best way to do it too, but it's very uncomfortable! Just cut off the bent over bit of the split pin if you can, then depress the clutch pedal slightly and using a pair of long nose pliers pull out the clevis pin.

Then to refit, hold the clevis pin in long noise pliers, depress the clutch pedal and carefully put it back in, it's a bit of a juggling act but it's do-able. then instead of using a split pin, use an R-clip.... 10 times easier to fit and remove.

That's pretty much what i did ALL day!

In the end i was just lying across the drivers side with my feet on the back seat and my head under the pedals. Not the most comfortable way to be, especially when you have the crossmember digging into your back, but got there in the end! Dreading putting it back in when the new master cylinder arrives!!!!

This is something i have heard a few times now. Definately going to use an R- clip putting it back together!
