Hi, I'm having a few issues with a mini 998 crank and was hoping i could get some help, I removed the crank from the engine to find the thrust washers wrecked, the crank was damaged too, this has been sorted but i now have an end float of 13 thou on standarsd washers, my question is.....
When ordering oversized washers if they are say 5 thou oversize from standard is that 2.5 thou each side in a set of four, or 5 thou on both sides meaning a total of 10 thou movement if i use all 4 washers in a set? which would make this crank too tight by three thou considering a 6 to 8 though tolerence.
Any help on this subject would be great, thanks.

Crank End Float And Thrust Washer Sizes ?.

Ok,
I think that it is 5 thou over both sides so a 5 thou oversize will take up a 10 thou float. I have standard one side and oversize the other to get the end float into tollerence so if you need to you can swap and change as long as same size both side.
Pretty sure this is the case, hopefully someone will back up for you.

The damage to the crank and it's re-facing has put the crank end float beyond what is correctable with standard available oversize thrusts. They come as +0.003" so with oversize ones each size you can remove 0.006" of float over & above standard thrusts. This would leave 0.007" float which is a bit too much, especially on a newly built engine. You might be able to get a set of +0.030" thrusts. They used to be available but are not listed by Mini Spares. If you can get some you have to measure carefully and get them ground down until they are exactly the correct thickness to give 0.002" end float.
Try F.W. Thornton in Shrewsbury to se if they have any +0.030" 998 crank thrust bearings.
