Hi i was just wondering if anyone is running one of the somerford mini rally type exhausts, the swept up one which resembles the original works exhaust system. If so it would be great to see some pictures and/or a video to hear what it sounds like.

Thanks,
Evan.

Hi! This one I found on Youtube is the Somerford works exhaust. I think it sounds awsome but the engine is pretty special too. It's got a fairly wild cam and must be so lightweight

One day...

Thanks, now that does sound good. May have to get one and ditch the rc40. Seems like this one may be a bit louder. I was going to use this with maybe a 1380 but not sure if the somerford exhaust is suitable for big bore or only for like 998's and 1293's etc? I've heard its a complete one piece system with no joins apart from where it fits to the lcb or the 3into1.

I don't know much about it, I just found that video and loved it.

People over on the MCR forum may know a bit more about it seeing as there are quite a few old rally cars including the works cars and replicas over there

The exhaust that they have hanging up does look like a 1 peice item, but as its a twin box I wouldn't have thought it would be much louder than a RC40 (which are pretty quite mind). If the bore is a bit smaller than ideal for a 1380, surely any loss in BHP would be made up in extra torque?

Yeah it probably would be around the same in the noise aspect, i don't mind the sound of the rc40 but would be nice if it was a little more 'beefy' and i guess you may be right in regards to bhp and torque. It wouldn't be that noticable anyway if the exhaust was a little smaller.

That looks like a very good exhaust and replicates the old 'works' systems. It will likely be quieter than a Maniflow as rally cars have to pass noise tests and the works Minis were not particularly noisy. On long rallies too much noise was tiring for the crew.

Yeah it does look close to the originals, i understand what you mean about the noise :D can get a bit too much if they're too loud.

A real rally exhaust will not be noisy as the noise limits are quite strict. I switched from Maniflow to 2-box RC40 as although not quite as well made it is quieter by a few decibels at 5000 rpm. Rally people don't like noisy cars - they are more for boy-racers..
