Hi all. 1993 cooper..Got my spi engine all in my cooper again. It turns over fine and when I manually drip fuel in the injection unit it fires then dies. Took fuel pips off and they're dry. Thus pointing out no fuels getting through. I have only put about 6quid worth of fuel in so far (jerry can) is this enough? Any help greatly appreciated cheers

Second pressing the inertia cut out switch, but put more than £6 in anyway - thats only about 4.5 litres these days.. I've burned out a fuel pump by running my tank too low - the fuel cools the pump, and in the injection tank the layout of how the pump sits means that you actually need a fair bit of fuel in the tank to properly immerse the pump. Id put about £15-£20 in it to be safe.

You should hear the pump running - it will prime the system for a few seconds when you turn the key to position 2 then cut off until you crank the engine. If no sound from the pump, then:

1. check you have pressed the inertia switch
2. If still nothing, check for 12V on the fuel pump connector at the tank - get your meter ready and check as you turn the key to position 2.
3. If no volts, then check the fuse - this can blow if the pump gets a bit hot (see earlier about need for fuel to cool it)
4. If you have volts at the pump but it doesnt run, then probably knackered pump.

My bet is on either inertia switch or fuse.

Good luck!
