Hi guys,
I recently bought some Redex and was about to use it until someone suggested it might cause me problems! Anybody have any reasons why I shouldn't?

Cheers!

I think some of them state they cant be used if the car has a catalytic converter but not sure which one this is as i bought it from a classic shop, ive used different types of redex... just read the label as my car has always ran nicely and improved my miles per gallon after the use of some form of redex.

I think i have used STP in the past, made the car run smoother and improved the MPG a little.

No need for any additives. Don't waste your hard earned cash. Your Mini will soon find something for you to spend it on.......

Here is the MSDS for Redex

http://www.partinfo....jector MSDS.pdf

Section 4 shows the composition, the only active ingredient is 'Polyolefin alkylphenol alkylamine' which will have some detergency properties, everything else is just solvent and present in petrol anyway! It certainly wont do any damage to catalysts but whether the detergent is active or not is another question. Fuels these days all have detergents in them anyway to keep injectors clean, the more expensive fuels like Shell VPower etc have higher treat rates of detergents.

Great for pouring in cylinder head chambers. Leave over night and just wipe the carbon off :)

... as a car parts bloke once said to me when I was buying a bottle .. "Now, Andy, you're not going to put that in an engine that works , are you?!?!"

Thanks for your opinions guys. I was thinking along the lines of...... whatever it cleans/removes in terms of carbon etc, has to go somewhere! Will that sludge then accumulate somewhere else?

Presumably it'll just be trapped in the fuel filter, or burned and blasted out the back?

Go to Unipart and get their Carb/Injector cleaner. Same stuff, but for about £2.50.

Detergents work by dissolving/reacting with the deposits in a very gradual manner, you dont just get big chunks of deposits falling off!!
