Just wondered if nitromors was man enough to remove the chrome from alloy wheels? I have tried sanding but its hardly even touching the chrome! Even with attachment on the drill.

Ideally i want to strip the chrome off completely and polish the rim and paint the centres, the same as the recent tutorial!

The chrome is peeling and looks naff, if needs be i will smooth them as much as possible and spray them and spray the rim in chrome effect paint but i think this will look naff and ideally want to do it properly!

Thanks Jack

no, nitromors won't even touch it. Chrome is not paint
Blasting is cheapest bet
or having the chrome removed by a plating company, may be rather pricey though

Nitromoors wont touch it. Ideally you need to take the wheels to an electro platers to get the chrome removed.

As above. Chrome is a plating, rather than 'stuck' on, like paint.

Do you think sanding the peeling areas as much as possible to try and feather out the effected areas and then spray the whole wheel in high build primer and then sand it flat will make it less noticeable?!

I cant really afford to take the tyres off, get them sandblasted, repainted and then tyres put back on :/ Its never going to be a show car just want to tidy them up a little bit.

You are sure the wheels are chromed and not polished?

Sandblasting won't work.

As Sonikk said, you need to take them to an eloctroplaters..

They're PLATED

As noted above, if the plating is generally sound sand blasting will not remove it.

Chrome is extremely hard and to that point trying to sand it would be pointless. Also once it starts to peel off the rest is sure to follow i'm afraid. The only thing you can do is to grin and bear it for the moment until you can save enough money to sort it out properly
